Meeting Information:

The objective of this presentation is to equip participants with a practical understanding of how managing transition is crucial to the success of a planned change. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) techniques are excellent tools and a methodology for strategic planning purposes, and for managing transitions. Since HR is usually responsible for the communication of Management’s various change programs, AI greatly increases the likelihood of faster acceptance, implementation, and success. Using AI and TM tools does position HR as a major resource in the design of strategic decisions.

President’s Message:

Meghann Stewart, PHR

Meghann.stewart@ksd.org

National elections have come and gone, but we have our chapter Board to elect still!

 The positions and nominations are:

● Member and At Large Director – Jennifer Poll

● Program Chair/Professional Development Chair – Alicia Knox

● Diversity Chair - Maggie Covarrubias

● Treasurer – Michelle Stewart

Even though there are not any positions that two individuals are running for, we still need to conduct a vote.  Please email me at bm.stewart@verizon.net before Monday, November 17th with your vote.  Now that we are a chapter of over 200 members, I need a majority of you to vote!

I had some individuals approach me that they might be interested in a position in the future.  We do have some volunteer opportunities if you are looking to get involved but not to the level of a board member.  Again, please feel free to contact me regarding volunteer positions.

Action item:  One immediate need is for helping with our new initiative to have our luncheons include recertification credit.  As it stands now, we have an individual who applies for the credit for us.  We need someone who would be willing to make up the certificates of completion and be present to hand them out at the luncheons.  This individual would also collect the speaker evaluations and tally them up.  If you are interested, please contact me at bm.stewart@verizon.net.

Finally, SHRM sent out a publication in regards to HRCI recertification.  There are over 10,000 professionals due to recertify this year.  There is a concern that with the economic times, individuals may let their certification lapse in lieu of paying for a class.  There are many low to no cost options available:

1.  You can go to the link http://www.hrci.org/HRCI_Files/_Items/HRCI-MR-TAB4-184/docs/Low%20cost%20recertification%20tips.pdf to access a flier on options.

2.  You can take a step-by-step on-line tour on recertification by accessing www.hrci.org/recertification/vrt/

3.  You can find pre-approved programs in our area by going to www.hrci.org/cepreapprovals/sdae

4.  There are also several HRCI webinars coming up:

“RECERTIFICATION: IT’S EASIER THAN YOU THINK” WEBINAR

WHEN: Thursday, November 6th, 12:15 PM - 1:15 PM, EST

WHERE: Click here to join the meeting: http://shrm.na3.acrobat.com/recert/

 and

“Virtual Recertification Counselor”

WHEN: Wednesday, November 12th at 12:00 noon ET

WHERE: Visit the HR Certification Institute’s homepage to participate in our Virtual Recertification Counselor (VRC) session where your recertification questions will be answered.

In closing, please do not forget that we have a feedback link on our webpage and we are always looking for comments, suggestions for speakers and issues you are facing.  We are building are 2009 calendar for speakers and it is a big task.  Feedback at the front end is always easier than shooting in the dark.

Please remember to send your RSVPs for our November luncheon to Connie Carson at hetcarson@aol.com.

Diversity ~ The Art of Thinking Independently Together

Is anyone is interested in getting together for coffee in the morning or wine in the afternoon to discuss diverse issues they are having in the workplace?  This will start a quarterly networking event that will allow people to discuss their day to day issues.  November's meeting will be called "Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas."

Those that are interested can email me at michelles@nap-chem.com.  We will test the waters November 14th at World Espresso in Richland at about 10:00am to discuss those diversity issues that come up during the holidays.
